At Keating Wagner, our three-decade history not only involves trial advocacy and serving our clients but also playing an active role in enriching the communities where we work and live. Our attorneys and staff are privileged to support and touch the lives of thousands of individuals every year. Sometimes we do this through volunteer hours and other times by financial sharing.
These opportunities come to us through partnerships with many organizations throughout the Denver metro area. One of these partnerships is with the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado (LAF). This opportunity requires individual associate efforts, which can lead to firm awards and recognition. Keating Wagner was the recipient of one of the 2023 awards.
For the third year in a row and the fifth time in the past six years, Keating Wagner has earned honors for the highest per capita contribution for smaller law firms to the Colorado Legal Aid Foundation’s Associates Campaign. In addition, the firm had the highest associate per capita contribution level of all fifty-eight law firms that participated.
Justices of the Colorado Supreme Court presented the awards. This year’s record-setting Associate Campaign raised an astounding $348,731 from over one thousand donors in just a single month.
For over three decades, the Denver-based Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado has helped ensure that free civil legal services are available to low-income individuals in the state. The Foundation promotes equal access to justice by raising funds to provide civil legal services for Coloradans in need. The Foundation benefits Colorado Legal Services, Colorado’s only statewide provider of civil legal services for low-income people and other vulnerable populations throughout the state.
LAF is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that was founded in 1981 as a result of cuts to federal funding for legal aid. LAF’s mission is to promote equal access to justice by raising funds to provide civil legal services for low-income Coloradoans.
LAF’s voluntary board of trustees primarily consists of attorneys from all over the state of various backgrounds. In fact, Keating Wagner attorneys Melissa Sullivan and Aaron Goldhamer serve on the Board of Trustees and the Associates Advisory Board, respectively.
In 2021 (the most recent data available), Colorado Legal Services handled 11,461 cases and obtained $3,188,741 in awards and benefits for clients.
In line with LAF’s mission, the annual Associates Campaign raises money for Colorado Legal Services (CLS). It is typically promoted in the month of March.
The Associates Campaign began in 2005 to increase support for civil legal aid among a new generation of Colorado attorneys who wanted to support access to justice for all people. In its inaugural year, 125 associates from ten Denver area law firms graciously donated almost $9,000. The Associates Campaign has grown each year since to include more donors and firms, making the campaign a significant portion of CLS’s funding.
Keating Wagner is proud to support the Foundation’s Associates Campaign to help ensure that everyone in Colorado has the access to justice they deserve. We encourage others who are able to do the same.
